Welcome to Unravel. We are a team of specialised emotional and behavioural psychologists and practitioners who provide bespoke support for children, young people, families and professionals.
The Unravel approach
Our approach is designed to unravel key challenges around children’s behaviour and give them the tools to make positive change. It is unique and statistically proven, applying a range of psychological techniques including elements of neuroscience so that children can understand themselves and take charge of their brains and behaviour. We work on all aspects that activate self-esteem to help each child gain control of their emotional well-being and build resilience.
One-to-one sessions for children, training for teachers and workshops for parents are part of our three-sixty approach. This gives all those involved strategies for understanding and handling the issues presented by children in emotional distress.
Each child is individual and their specific needs are at the heart of our approach. That’s why our support is bespoke and applies a range of techniques including:

Andrea’s story
Unravel’s founder, Andrea Chatten established the Unravel approach based on nearly 30 years’ experience of working with children and young people in emotional distress.
The work of her team of Unravel psychologists is based on a career dedicated to personal research and effective practice in this field. She has a Masters Degree in Developmental Psychology and an extensive teaching career. She’s been a primary school teacher in some of the most deprived areas of the country, a special needs teacher in a pioneering learning support unit and a team leader in a pupil referral unit.
The bridge between educational and child psychologists
Andrea has used her wealth of experience and expertise to train and build a team committed to driving positive change for children and young people. She recognised that there is a service missing and Unravel has been rapidly embraced by schools, parents and support services in desperate need for intervention during challenging times.
The Unravel team are recognised as experts in this specialised area which sits between the work of Educational and Child Psychologists. They are currently campaigning for this model to be recognised like other protected psychological areas with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Author and BBC subject specialist
Andrea is author of ‘The Blinks’, a series of books which were created to help children, young people and their families understand and manage emotional and behavioural issues. She is also the BBC’s on-hand expert to call upon when ‘hot topics’ arise in the news and which may affect the well-being of children and young people.
